Ingredients

Cake

  • 2 c sugar
  • 2 c flour
  • ½ t baking soda
  • ½ t salt
  • 2 sticks oleo
  • 4 T cocoa
  • 1 c water
  • ½ c buttermilk
  • 1 t vanilla
  • 2 eggs

Frosting

  • 1 stick butter
  • 2 T cocoa
  • 6 T buttermilk
  • 1 box (approximately 3.5 cups)powdered sugar

Instructions

Cake

  1. Preheat oven to 350 °F, adjust rack to middle position.
  2. In a mixing bowl, sift together the sugar, flour, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a pan over medium heat, melt butter and add cocoa and water. Bring to a boil.
  4. After wet ingredients come to a rapid boil, pour over dry ingredients.
  5. Add the buttermilk, vanilla, and eggs.
  6. Beat all ingredients together until thoroughly mixed.
  7. Spray cookie sheet with Pam.
  8. Pour mix into pan.
  9. Bake for 15 – 20 minutes, watch for edges to pull away from pan.
  10. Let the cake cool some.

Frosting

  1. In a pan over medium heat, melt butter.
  2. Add cocoa and buttermilk, bring to a boil.
  3. Remove from heat and add powdered sugar, vanilla, and chopped pecans.
  4. Spread over cake while the frosting is hot.

Serving Instructions

Allow cake to cool completely before serving. You can put in the fridge to cool. Store covered.
